Step 01
Discovery call
A short, no-obligation conversation to understand your firm and decide together whether an audit makes sense. Free.
We audit how your firm actually works, pinpoint the tasks AI can safely take on, then build what we recommend. Independent, fixed-scope, plain English.
Bottlenecks across the practice, mapped.
Prioritised by value and risk.
Plain figures, no vendor spin.
Whether you build with us or not.
A B Consultants exists to give accountancy firms a straight answer on AI. No buzzwords, no platform we're quietly reselling. We look at how your firm runs, tell you where AI genuinely helps, and only then build it.
Scott founded A B Consultants to close a gap he kept seeing: firms being sold AI tools before anyone had asked whether they solved a real problem. The work starts with listening to partners, managers and the people doing the day-to-day.
Every engagement is led personally and kept deliberately small. You deal with the person doing the thinking, not an account manager and a deck.
Step 01
A short, no-obligation conversation to understand your firm and decide together whether an audit makes sense. Free.
Step 02
We map your tools, workflows and where time is lost across compliance, advisory and admin.
Step 03
A prioritised, costed set of recommendations: what to do, what to leave, the likely return and the risks.
Step 04
We can implement what we recommended, or hand the report to your own team. The audit stands on its own.
Two services, in order. The audit gives you the decision; the build delivers it. You're never committed to the second to get the value of the first.
A fixed-scope review of your practice that ends with a clear, costed plan. An independent answer to "should we, where, and what's it worth?", with no obligation to build anything.
Step two · optional
When the audit points to something worth doing, we build it properly. We implement the recommended systems inside your firm, test them against real work, and make sure your team can run them once we step back.
Priced separately, only for work you approve
After go-live
We don't disappear at launch. You get clear documentation, training for the people using the systems day-to-day, and a defined point of contact while things bed in, so the value sticks after we've gone.
Built into every build engagement
The audit is a fixed fee, agreed in writing before any work begins. The exact figure depends on the size of your firm and the scope we set together on the discovery call, but you'll know it up front, with no open-ended day rates. You decide whether to proceed once you've seen the scope and the price.
Most audits run over a few weeks, not months. We work around your busy periods and keep the demands on your team light: typically a kick-off, a handful of short conversations, and access to review how work currently flows. You'll have the written report and a walkthrough at the end.
This is the first thing accountancy firms raise, and rightly so. The audit is designed to work without us needing live client data; we look at systems and process, not your clients' records. Where any access is genuinely necessary, it's agreed in advance, minimised, and covered by a confidentiality agreement.
Any system we recommend is assessed for data protection and security before it goes anywhere near your practice.
We do the heavy lifting. From your side it's a short kick-off, a few focused conversations with the right people, and a look at how key tasks are done today. We then map your tools and workflows, identify where AI could help, and pull it together into a prioritised report, so you get the thinking without losing chargeable hours.
You own the report and the plan. From there you can ask us to build what we recommended, take it to your own team, or simply keep it on file and act when you're ready. The audit is built to stand on its own; there's no pressure to move into a build, and no part of the value depends on it.
No. The audit and the build are separate engagements, priced separately. Plenty of firms take the report and implement parts of it themselves. If you do want us to build, we will, but the recommendation is the same whether we're holding the screwdriver or not, because we're not tied to any vendor or platform.
The discovery call is free and runs about 30 minutes. We'll talk through your firm, answer your questions, and tell you honestly whether an audit is worth your while.
